Charles Laughton - Island of Lost Souls

Edward Parker is stranded on a remote island by the drunken captain of a tramp steamer and becomes a captive of the scientist Dr. Moreau. The doctor performs bizarre experiments on animals in his lab at night, and various animal-like creatures roam the nearby jungle. Parker becomes captivated by the alluring Lota, whom he initially believes to be a local girl. Eventually, he discovers that she is a hybrid, half-human and half-panther. His fiancée Ruth Thomas, worried for his safety, searches the South Seas and ultimately reaches Moreau's island. She confronts both the beast-woman, who desires Parker for herself, and the cruel and contemptuous Dr. Moreau, who is dressed in white and wields a whip.
