Susan and God (1940)

Fedric March, Joan Crawford - Susan and God

Wealthy New York couple Barrie and Susan Trexel have an unhappy, loveless marriage, neglecting their daughter Blossom. Barrie's drinking problem worsens, and Susan's self-absorption leads her to find solace in a new religious group. While Susan is away, Barrie decides to sober up and reunite with Blossom. He negotiates a summer together at their country house with Susan, stipulating that if he falls off the wagon, he will grant her an immediate divorce, and sex will not be part of the arrangement. As the summer progresses, they both begin to understand what they need from each other and themselves.
