I'll Be Your Sweetheart (1945)

London, 1900: the songwriting trio of Le Brunn, Kahn and Kelly, believe that if they can persuade popular music-hall songstress Edie Story to accept one of their songs, I'll Be Your Sweetheart, it will rocket them to fame. They sell the number to music publisher Jim Knight but, because they have not got an advance from him, re-sell it to Bob Fielding, a lad from the provinces trying to set up in music publishing. Against the background of the struggles of the three composers - one of whom is doomed to meet a tragic end - Knight and Fielding become rivals not only for the song, but for Edie Story herself.
