My Brother Jonathan (1948)
In a flashback, Dr. Jonathan Dakers recounts to his son Tony, a World War II veteran, the story of his life beginning in the 1900s. As a medical student, Jonathan falls in love with Edie, but his plans for their future are derailed when his father dies, and he must sacrifice his own career to support his brother Harold through college. When Jonathan finally reunites with Edie years later, he discovers that she has fallen in love with Harold. However, their happiness is short-lived when Harold is killed in World War I, and Edie dies in childbirth, leaving behind a son named Tony. Jonathan promises to raise the child as his own and eventually marries Rachel.
