Newly-arrived in Houston, Texas, Bud Davis quickly discovers the famous local honky-tonk, Gilley's. It is here that he meets Sissy. Soon married, they both become fascinated by Gilley's mechanical rodeo bull. Bud refuses to let Sissy ride it, but ex-convict and rodeo expert Wes Hightower secretly gives her lessons.
