Convicted (1938)





Jerry Wheeler (Rita Hayworth), a night-club singer, seeks the help of Police Detective Burns (Charles Quigley) to uncover the killer of a gold-digger, for which her brother, "Chick" (Edgar Edwards), has been sentenced to death by electric chair. She becomes convinced that Milton Militis (Marc Lawrence), the owner of a nightclub, is the murderer and decides to gather evidence to prove her brother's innocence. Jerry secures a job as a singer in the club to gain Milton's trust and find the evidence she needs. However, Milton discovers her true intentions and, along with an accomplice, plans to kill her while her brother is executed, delighting in their sinister scheme.
