When You're in Love (1937)

Grace Moore, Cary Grant - When You're in Love

The artist, Jimmy Hudson (played by Cary Grant), finds himself in a predicament in Mexico as he is unable to pay his hotel bill. At the same time, opera singer Louise Fuller (played by Grace Moore) is in the same predicament, unable to return to the United States due to visa issues. To solve their problems, Jimmy agrees to marry Louise in exchange for $2,000, which she uses to return to New York and continue her opera career. Despite the initial animosity between them, Jimmy and Louise begin to develop feelings for each other. One of the highlights of the film is when Louise performs "Minnie the Moocher" with a five-piece band, made famous by Cab Calloway. Although their love seems to be hindered by Louise's career, they eventually exchange divorce papers. However, in the end, love prevails.
