Nora Ryan, a young Irish girl living in New York, seeks to improve her life by becoming a personal maid for the wealthy Gary family. The Garys fear Grandpa Gary, a copper tycoon who controls their wealth. When Mrs. Otis Gary hears that her son Dick has been expelled from college, she sends Nora to meet him at the train station and escort him to his aunt's in Virginia. Despite Dick's flirtatious behavior towards her, Nora finds him irresistible and tries to resist. However, when Dick attempts to scam her out of money, Nora returns to the Garys to report the incident to Grandpa Gary. Despite the incident, Grandpa Gary, who has a fondness for Dick, dismisses it and compensates Nora. She then moves into a luxurious hotel under a different name and begins dating Peter Shea, Grandpa Gary's business manager. Grandpa Gary, knowing of the romantic feelings between Nora and Dick, tries to break them up, leading to confusion and complications.
