A Man Betrayed (1941)

Lynn Hollister (John Wayne), a small-town lawyer, travels to Temple City to uncover the truth behind the death of his friend Johnny Smith at the Club Inferno nightclub. It turns out that Smith was shot by Floyd Amato, the brother of T. Amato who runs the club and is a henchman for political leader Tom Cameron.

Upon arriving in Temple City, Hollister meets Cameron's daughter Sabra and is drawn to her. She invites him to the Club Inferno, where he gathers more evidence that Smith was murdered. T. Amato becomes angry with Cameron for not appointing him to political office and decides to use illegal means to win the upcoming election. Hollister sees this as his chance to bring the truth to light and uses an old law to detain anyone suspected of voting illegally, including the institution inmates and racketeers imported by Cameron and Amato. Some of them turn against the Cameron-Amato group and provide evidence, leading to the truth being revealed and the culprits being brought to justice.
