Count von Warthenberg of Austria is a grumpy recluse who runs a stud farm since the death of his wife. This summer, his former lover Susanne Weiden arrives, seeking a wealthy marriage and inheritance. However, his daughter Hanna has other plans with her secret lover Michael, a teacher of the world-famous Vienna Boys' Choir, who will spend their summer vacation in the countryside. Michael 'Mikel', the son of the count's estranged elder daughter Maria, is among them. The plan is to bring the grandfather and grandson together and bond before revealing their familial ties. An unexpected encounter with a stray dog and shared love of horses helps in this endeavor.
