In Manchester, England, Anne Lee, a dedicated nurse, takes responsibility for the death of a child that was caused by her younger sister Lucy's negligence. Despite this, Anne remains loyal to her profession and goes to work at another hospital, where she meets and falls in love with Dr. Prescott, who is seeking financial support for a new addition to the hospital. A scandal leads to Anne's dismissal, but when an epidemic breaks out, she returns to the hospital to help. Her sister dies during the epidemic, but Anne, who has demonstrated her selfless dedication to her duties, is reinstated and reunites with Prescott. In the end, the trustees award Prescott the new hospital facility, bringing a happy resolution to the story.
