The Princess Comes Across (1936)

A showgirl from Brooklyn assumes the identity of Olga, a Swedish princess, in an effort to advance her career in film. Olga's friend, another showgirl, helps coach her and provides support as "Lady Gertrude Allwyn." On a transatlantic liner bound for New York, Olga meets bandleader King Mantell and his friend Benton. During the voyage, Olga is blackmailed by a man who knew her in Brooklyn. When the blackmailer is mysteriously murdered in her stateroom, Olga convinces Mantell to move the body to another cabin. Five foreign police agents traveling to a convention try to solve the crime, but Mantell ultimately captures the killer. Having fallen in love with Olga, Mantell agrees to help her maintain her masquerade. However, Olga's disguise is revealed in a radio speech upon her arrival in New York.
