Joan Wood, a dress designer in deep debt, creates costumes for a Broadway show exported to Argentina to pay off her debts. However, a mistake is made, and she receives payment in Buenos Aires, where her friend Wally Wendell resides. Wally's grandfather disapproves of his relationship with Joan and attempts to persuade him to marry Constance Cook, a girl he hasn't seen in years, who happens to be a passenger on a ship traveling to Buenos Aires. Meanwhile, Wally's friend Basil has caused an accident and owes Voltair McGuines for damages, but Wally can't help due to being disinherited by his grandfather for choosing Joan over Constance.
