Virtue (1932)

Pat O'Brien, Carole Lombard - Virtue

Mae and a group of other street girls receive suspended sentences in a New York court on the condition that they leave the city. While on their journey, Mae meets a taxi driver named Jimmy, who takes her back to downtown. During the ride, Jimmy makes witty comments and shares his candid views on women. Mae and Jimmy become better acquainted and, under his influence, Mae reforms. After a short courtship, Mae and Jimmy get married. However, on their wedding night, the police come for Mae. Despite this, Jimmy stands by her. Later, Mae goes to a hotel that she used to visit to retrieve a $200 loan that she made to a friend. At first, Jimmy assumes that Mae has returned to her old ways. When a murder occurs in the hotel and Mae is arrested, Jimmy realizes that she has been truthful with him and works to prove her innocence.
