Betrayed Women (1955)

The governor tasks attorney Jeff Darrow with conducting an inquiry into the alleged mistreatment of the female prisoners at Bayou Reformatory. Mrs. Ballard, the superintendent of the prison, opposes the investigation, especially since her dim-witted brother, Cletus, oversees the prison's bloodhounds. Jeff's former fiancé, Nora Collins, is now an inmate after stealing to save her brother, and she is frustrated with the prison's abusive practices, particularly those of guard Darcy. Honey Blake and Kate attempt to use Cletus in a failed escape attempt, but they then try to flee again by taking Jeff, Nora, and Mrs. Ballard as hostages. Mabry, Kate's criminal lover, learns of the escape and races ahead to retrieve the $50,000 she had hidden, aware that Kate will go there.
