Mildred Pierce (1945)

Wally Faye finds Mildred Pierce wandering on the pier at Santa Monica after a failed suicide bid and takes her back with him to a beach house. But Mildred flees through the window and Wally finds he has been locked in the house. As he stumbles through the place, he knocks over a lamp which reveals the dead body of Monte Beragon, Mildred's husband.
