The Mad Game (1933)

Ed Carson, the leader of a bootlegging group, is falsely accused of income tax evasion by his lawyer and sent to prison. In his absence, the group shifts from selling illegal alcohol to kidnapping. The Penfields, the son and daughter-in-law of the judge who convicted Carson, are kidnapped by the gang. Carson is granted parole to help track down the kidnappers and rescue the Penfields. He successfully frees Tom and Lila and kills the kidnapper's leader, but ultimately dies from his own wounds.
