20,000 Years in Sing Sing (1932)

Tom Connors is sent to prison and initially refuses to comply with the rules, resulting in him being placed in solitary confinement. Over time, he changes his attitude and passes up an opportunity to escape. He is given more leniency as a result. When his girlfriend is critically injured in a car accident, he is granted a 24-hour leave to visit her. During this leave, he kills Finn, the person responsible for his imprisonment and for the death of his girlfriend. Despite this, he keeps his promise to return to prison and willingly accepts the consequences of his actions.
