Girls on Probation (1938)

Hilda, a troublemaker, convinces Connie to attend a party and lends her a dress she had taken from the cleaning company they both work at. When the dress gets damaged, the owner Jane and her boyfriend Neil find out and Connie gets blamed, fired, and charged for it. Neil, the prosecutor, has sympathy for Connie and drops the charges and loans her the money to repay for the dress. Connie moves to the city to start over and avoid the embarrassment, but ends up meeting Hilda and getting falsely arrested for bank robbery along with her and Tony. A helpful parole officer believes Connie's innocence and helps her get released on parole. She returns home, gets engaged to Neil and is doing well until Hilda threatens to ruin everything by revealing Connie's secret.
