Easy Rawlins has left the army after Word War II. Looking for a job he agrees to help Dewitt Albright to find Daphne Monet for $100. Daphne is involved with one of the mayoral candidates. The search brings Easy in a web of intrigues, murder and corruption and eventually he learns the truth about Daphne.
