The Bond Boy (1922)

In order to support his impoverished mother, Joe Newbolt enters into a bond with the harsh and unforgiving Isom Chase. Ollie Chase, Isom's wife, becomes tired of the difficult life imposed on her by her husband and decides to elope with Cyrus Morgan. However, Joe's sense of honor compels him to intervene. While he is trying to dissuade Ollie from going through with her plan, Isom discovers them together, misunderstands the situation, and reaches for his gun, causing it to accidentally discharge and kill him.

Though he is accused of murder, Joe protects Mrs. Chase and is subsequently tried, convicted, and sentenced to be hanged. But he manages to escape, seeks refuge with Mrs. Chase, and persuades her to tell the truth. As a result, Joe is cleared of all charges, reunited with his sweetheart, and discovers that the Chase farm rightfully belongs to him.
