Een dagje naar het strand (1984)

Tara Fallaux - Een dagje naar het strand

Bernd's drinking problem has isolated him from society and his days are filled with boredom as he bores others with his seemingly intelligent but often incomprehensible wisdoms, embodying his lonely existence. He is an anarchic rebel who lives without responsibility or regulation. On a rainy, hungover day, he takes his supposed daughter Walijne to the beach at Scheveningen. When Walijne's mother and her boyfriend need a nanny, they turn to Bernd to care for the girl for the day. Despite initially taking good care of Walijne, Bernd's drinking interferes and he repeatedly loses the girl's trust. Despite this, he continues to drink heavily, risking destruction. The film, "A Day at the Beach," avoids becoming a tragedy due to its ironic tone and absurd encounters between Bernd and other beach and café visitors, along with the fitting piano music that keeps the audience engaged with the increasingly hostile Bernd.
