When the police officers command a garage proprietor to open the trunk of his car, they discover a hoard of shares, jewels, gold and bonds that belong to a senior opera singer who was robbed. The garage owner had been driving the car at the request of Jules Depraeter, a wealthy and shady businessman from Ghent. When questioned by the police, the garage owner reveals that he had asked Depraeter to murder his wife, causing the Ghent investigating judge Jensens to be taken aback.
