Charming, unusual and in many ways a memorable British film with the novel background of Nova Scotia at the period of the Boer War. About a God-fearing, strict hut basically just old Scot, Jim MacKenzie and the impact made upon him, his family and their neighbours by the advent of their two small, orphaned grandsons. Beautifully photographed, brilliantly directed and wonderfully acted—the two little boys, Jon Whiteley and 5-year-old newcomer Vincent Winter, give incredibly impressive performances. 1
