A Woman of Affairs (1928)

Greta Garbo, John Gilbert - A Woman of Affairs

Diana Merrick (Greta Garbo) is an aristocratic English girl who is in love with Neville (John Gilbert), but their marriage is prevented by Neville's father Sir Montague (Hobart Bosworth), who disapproves of Diana's family's reckless lifestyle. Diana's brother Geoffrey (Douglas Fairbanks Jr.) is a wastrel, and Diana herself has a questionable reputation. She embarks on a series of wild escapades and winds up marrying David (John Mack Brown), unaware that he is a thief. When David is caught, he kills himself, and Diana sets out to repay what he had stolen. Neville is married to Constance (Dorothy Sebastian), but he still loves Diana and leaves Constance to be with her. Diana, realizing that their love will ruin Neville, tells him that Constance is pregnant and sends him away. She then crashes her car into the tree where she and Neville first realized they were in love and dies.
