The film depicts Jan, nearly 16, caught attempting to escape to West Germany and subsequently transferred from prison to a juvenile detention center where he meets Jana. Despite initially starting as a bet, their relationship blossoms into true love. As Jana becomes pregnant, the situation escalates, leading them to flee into the uncertain future of a new Germany in the summer of 1990.
