Dr Smart is Head of Narkover School, a position he obtains by means of a reference forged by a convict called Brown, whose son is at the school. On Dr Smart's first appearance, he is badly mauled by the boys, and it isn't long before other problems present themselves in the shape of Brown, now out and turning his hand to a bit of blackmail.
