Following the death of his mother, Windleter, a farmer living in a small Swiss mountain village, feels extremely isolated on his farm. Despite his attempts to find a local wife, he is unable to do so as they are not keen on a life of constant hard work. In a bid to find companionship, he decides to seek out a young woman from Thailand who has experience working on a farm. After marrying her despite the fact that she cannot speak German, they gradually begin to bond. However, Windleter's neighbors in the village refuse to accept her and instead treat her with disdain and as if she were a prostitute.
