The Redeeming Sin (1929)

At the Café du Chat Noir, dancer Joan Billaire confronts Mitzi for teaching her brother Petit to pick pockets. Lupine, a thief, saves Joan from being knifed in the altercation. Later, Lupine recruits Petit for a robbery that goes wrong, and Petit is accidentally shot by Lupine. Joan seeks help from Dr. Raoul de Boise, who reports the incident to the police. When Petit dies, Joan tries to shoot Raoul, but Father Colomb intervenes. Despite Lupine's jealousy, Joan and Raoul fall in love, but Lupine wounds Raoul in a fit of rage. Joan confesses to her part in robbing a church but is forced to marry Lupine as punishment. In a jealous frenzy, Lupine confesses to killing Petit and is subsequently killed by the gendarmes.
