The American Embassy in Teheran is seized by Iranian revolutionaries, who demand the handover of the Shah by America. Fifty-two staff members are taken hostage, but six americans escape and shelter in the Canadian ambassador's residence. Two months later, the CIA sets up a plan to bring the six out of Iran. Exfiltration specialist Tony Mendez poses as the producer of a science-fiction film, 'Argo', looking for locations. He sets up a complete fake production company with an office in Hollywood, giving the project credibility. The Iranians are confinced
and Mendez is able to bring the six back to the United States. Based on a true story.
