De vlaschaard (1985)
In a flax-growing region of Flanders, patriarchal farmer Vermeulen rules his estate with an iron fist, disregarding any advice and scolding those who oppose him. His wife and son accept his heartless manner, while his sisters are spoiled. Despite the difficult farm life, Vermeulen chooses to sow late in a poorly drained field. Louis, the son, works obediently but is never appreciated. When Vermeulen thinks Louis is conspiring against him, he decides to marry him off and buys an estate. When Louis takes the initiative to finish the urgent harvest, Vermeulen's arrogance drives him to commit an unforgivable crime.
