Painted Faces (1929)

It was Better-Stories-Week in Hollywood, and Tiffany took it big. So did Joe E Brown. He gives a thoroughly artistic characterization of an apparently stubborn Swede who deadlocks a jury for five days because he "dawn't tink dat boy kill de man." A bit of his old clowning, but not enough to overbalance the tense, refreshing original story of what goes on in a locked juryroom. All Talkie.
