The House of Rothschild (1934)

Boris Karloff, George Arliss - The House of Rothschild

The Rothschild family, led by Mayer Rothschild and his son Nathan, rise to become a powerful banking house in Europe during the late 1700s. Despite facing anti-Semitism, they provide financial aid to various countries during the Napoleonic Wars to defeat Napoleon. However, their efforts to restore economic stability in France are blocked by an anti-Semitic Prussian ambassador. In retaliation, Nathan manipulates the bond market and the ambassador incites violent attacks against Jewish communities. Eventually, Nathan's tactics pay off as the same ambassador is forced to seek his help in defeating Napoleon once again and the attacks against Jews are stopped permanently. Nathan is eventually honored with a title by the King of England following Napoleon's defeat at Waterloo.
