Two jumps ahead of the sheriff, and weeks behind in pay, the McGonigle Repertory Company travels through America's small towns. The company's financial difficulties come to a head in Barnesville where, headed by The Great McGonigle, its members scramble on to the first train out of town a short head in front of the law.
