Poland 1933. Antonio Taviatini, a singer who has been abroad for 25 years, returns to his home town, accompanied by his faithless wife, his scheming secretary and a army of hangers-on. Antonio is using his own money to build an opera house in Strasburg, and the secretary, Netz, will stop at nothing to become its director. These are only some of Antonio's problems. Unknown to him, his wife and secretary are having an affair and his hotel room is bugged.
