The French Riviera in the Thirties. Down on her luck, messenger girl and embryo entertainer Elizabeth runs into Victor, a female impersonator, during a downpour. Suffering from a streaming cold, Victor persuades Elizabeth to go on in his place, as a boy impersonating a girl impersonating a boy.
