Moby Dick (1930)

Walter Long, John Barrymore - Moby Dick

This loose retelling of Melville's classic novel introduces Ahab not as a crazed and revengeful man, but as a charming scamp. He meets and falls in love with Faith Mapple, the minister's daughter who is loved by Ahab's brother Derek, while in New Bedford. Faith reciprocates Ahab's feelings as Derek is dull and unimpressive. On his voyage, Ahab loses his leg to Moby-Dick, the white whale. When he returns to New Bedford and wrongly assumes Faith doesn't want anything to do with him due to his injury, Ahab sets out to sea with one purpose - to hunt and kill Moby-Dick.
