De kleine waarheid (1970)

Marleen Spaargaren is a middle-class girl living in Amsterdam between the two World Wars. Her husband, a furniture maker named Jan Engelmoer (John Leddy), is unable to give her a child. Marleen asks Doctor Bresser (Guus Verstraete Sr.) to keep this information from Jan. Later, when a child is born, Marleen keeps it a secret from her husband that the child is actually the product of a brief affair with sculptor Jos Boswinkel (Coen Flink). When Jan dies, Marleen still feels guilty about her actions. But Dr. Bresser reveals that Jan was aware of the situation all along. Meanwhile, Marleen has also taken on the responsibility of caring for her younger brother Eppo (Hans Hoekman).
