Rosen für den Staatsanwalt (1959)

In April 1945, soldier Rudi faces a harrowing fate after pilfering two boxes of chocolate, earning him a death sentence from the stern court-martial judge, Dr. Schramm. Miraculously, Rudi narrowly dodges the firing squad's bullets during an air raid, marking the beginning of his tumultuous journey.

In the aftermath of the war, Rudi ekes out a meager existence as a street peddler, haunted by the specter of his past. Meanwhile, Dr. Schramm ascends to prominence as a revered public prosecutor.

Years later, fate intervenes as the paths of Rudi and Dr. Schramm intersect on the bustling city streets. Gripped by fear of exposure, Dr. Schramm orchestrates Rudi's arrest, subjecting him to cruel treatment by the police in a bid to intimidate him into silence.

Driven to desperation, Rudi resorts to a desperate ploy, stealing two boxes of chocolate once more, hoping to reopen his old case and unveil Dr. Schramm's dark past. However, Dr. Schramm clandestinely removes Rudi's death sentence from official records, shrouding his culpability.

As the trial unfolds, suspicion mounts, and Dr. Schramm's façade begins to crumble. In a moment of recklessness, his own words betray him, inadvertently revealing his guilt and triggering chaos in the courtroom.

With the trial halted, Dr. Schramm scrambles to evade accountability, while Rudi endeavors to forge a fresh start. Ultimately, Rudi finds solace and a newfound sense of belonging with the compassionate woman who owns the local hotel, paving the way for a hopeful future away from the shadows of the past.
