Corridors of Blood (1958)

Before anesthesia, surgeries in London hospitals were brutal and painful. In 1840, Dr. Bolton, a compassionate surgeon, tries to eliminate pain in surgery by experimenting on himself. However, he becomes addicted to drugs. During a demonstration at the hospital, his patient wakes up and attacks the doctors and students. Dr. Bolton is dismissed from his position and unable to continue his experiments as he is denied access to the necessary materials. Under the influence of drugs, he wanders into a tavern in Seven Dials and falls under the influence of the innkeeper and his associates, who supply him with drugs in exchange for him signing false death certificates so they can sell cadavers to hospitals. After the criminals murder a hospital guard, the police catch them, and during the struggle, Dr. Bolton is killed. His son, Jonathan, continues his father's work until anesthesia becomes a reality.
