Boefje (1939)

Jan Grover, a twelve-year-old boy, spends more time in the streets of Rotterdam than with his family, though he occasionally cares for his three younger sisters, all named Mientje. He and his closest friend, Pietje Puk, dream of traveling to America to become wealthy. At first, Jan resists when a compassionate clergyman tries to teach him proper behavior. However, once he is sent to a rigid boarding school, he discovers a love for music, particularly the pipe organ.
