Het geheim van Delft (1917)

The story is about Jan Vogel's attempts to rediscover the lost recipe for shiny Delft pottery. He needs platinum to do so, but his funds run out because the factory owner, Van Haaften, has lost money in stock speculation. Jan finds a letter in the park with a large sum of money, but Van Haaften's son Leo confesses his love for Jan's daughter Annie, but Van Haaften forbids their marriage. Jan buys Van Haaften a gun to protect himself from his nephew Willem Berg, who is trying to steal the recipe. One night, Van Haaften finds a letter with a sum of money that is not enough to cover his losses, he writes a suicide note and shoots himself, and Willem steals the money and the note. The next morning, Jan discovers the recipe, but finds Van Haaften dead. Jan is falsely accused and thrown in prison, but manages to give the recipe to his daughter Lilly. Lilly tries to prove her father's innocence, while Willem becomes increasingly violent in his attempts to get the recipe. Lilly sends a letter to her sister Annie, who is guarding the recipe, but Willem chases after her.
