The film "Angela's Ashes" is based on the autobiography of Irish expat Frank McCourt. It tells the story of Frankie and his family as they struggle to overcome poverty in Limerick before World War II. The story begins in Brooklyn but after a tragedy, the family returns to Limerick, where they find conditions worse. Frankie's father, a Northern Irish veteran of the IRA, has trouble finding work due to prejudice, and when he does, he spends the money on alcohol.
