The Sun Shines Bright (1953)
In spite of the impending election, Billy Priest takes on the defense of a black boy accused of rape, and leads the funeral procession of a prostitute whose return to town, and death, bring the town secret to light. Lucy Lee Lake is united with her grandfather, General Fairfield, and is engaged to the reformed Ashby Corwin. Billy Priest wins the election and the forces of the Confederacy thus triumph over the carpetbagger, Maydew.2
