Gypo Nolan informs on his friend, IRA leader Frankie McPhillip, for twenty pounds, which he then spends on everyone in the street. Sentenced to death by the IRA as an informer, Gypo escapes, is wounded but struggles to a church, where he dies in the shadow of the cross after Frankie's mother forgives him. 3
