Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)

Alien spacecraft are spotted circling Earth by several people including a suburban father named Roy Neary and a single mother named Jillian whose son has been abducted. As more and more people become aware of the presence of the alien ships, they demand answers from the government officials but they remain silent. A group of people, who have been experiencing mental images of a towering structure, slowly comes together and come to the realization that they have been summoned to Devils Tower for an extraterrestrial first contact. Despite their efforts, only a small group of people manage to reach the location to greet the alien visitors.
