Country Life (1994)
Set in 1920s rural Australia,
Jack and his niece Sally operate the family farm to sustain Alexander, portrayed as a successful literary critic in London. Tension arises when Alexander returns with his stunning wife Deborah and wants to sell the farm, exposing himself as a conceited failure. Blakemore explores Australia's independence from England and expands on the Doctor Max Askey's pacifist and environmental ideologies.
