The Squaw Man (1918)

Jim Wynnegate is deeply in love with Diana, the wife of his cousin Henry, the Earl of Kerhill. When Henry embezzles funds from an orphanage trust, Jim takes the blame and disappears to protect Diana from shame. He settles on a ranch in Wyoming and saves an Indian girl named Naturich from the cruel Cash Hawkins, earning Hawkins' enmity. Later, Hawkins attacks Jim, but Naturich ambushes and kills him. Jim marries Naturich out of gratitude and they have a son named Hal, who is beloved by his parents and idolized by the ranch hands. Several years later, Henry is mortally wounded on a hunting trip and confesses his role in the embezzlement, clearing Jim's name. Diana visits Jim and he, though reluctant to leave his devoted wife, agrees to let Diana raise Hal in England. Naturich overhears the conversation and realizes she will lose her son and takes her own life. Jim is devastated by her death, but after some time he assumes the title of Earl and marries Diana.
