The Woman of Mystery (1914)

Norma, a dancer, is startled when she receives a mysterious gift containing poisonous snakes. Nelson, a detective, takes on the challenge of unraveling this enigma. A peculiar trademark on the box leads him to a Hindu woman's purchase. However, upon investigation, he discovers she's a Priestess of Buddhism. Attempting to enchant Nelson with her beauty, the Priestess resorts to drugging him. Despite the daze, Nelson manages to call for help, leading to the Priestess's arrest.

Impressed by Nelson's bravery, Norma is drawn to him, and they form a bond. Meanwhile, the Priestess orchestrates a psychic miracle, projecting her soul while in prison. Under her influence, Nelson's demeanor changes, and he aids criminals in a bank robbery. Unaware of his dual personality, he investigates the crime, finding incriminating evidence against himself.

Threatened by the Priestess's followers, Nelson's safety becomes a concern for Norma. To safeguard him, she agrees to marry him hastily. As Nelson oscillates between his true self and the Priestess's influence, confusion ensues, with him inadvertently aiding the criminals who robbed his home.

Norma and Nelson's mother witness Nelson's strange behavior, leading them to follow him to the criminals' hideout. With Norma's help, Nelson escapes the criminals' clutches. However, the Priestess's followers rescue her and ensnare Nelson and Norma in a temple.

With quick thinking, Norma frees Nelson, and together they overcome obstacles, including burning ropes and scaling down from a rooftop. The police intervene, capturing the criminals in a tumultuous confrontation. Meanwhile, the Priestess meets her demise, ending her hold over Nelson.

With the threat eliminated, Nelson and Norma are finally free to embrace their love and plan their future together, relieved from the shadows of the Priestess's influence.
