Dr. Strangelove (1964)

The film is a satirical take on the Cold War and nuclear conflict, and follows the events that unfold after a group of rogue U.S. Air Force officers, led by General Jack D. Ripper (Hayden), launch a nuclear attack on the Soviet Union without the president's authorization.

As the situation spirals out of control, the U.S. President (Sellers), his advisors, and the Soviet premier engage in a series of increasingly absurd and humorous attempts to prevent a full-blown nuclear apocalypse. Along the way, the film introduces a series of memorable characters, including the titular Dr. Strangelove (also played by Sellers), a disabled former Nazi scientist who advises the president on nuclear strategy, and Major T.J. "King" Kong (Scott), a cowboy-themed bomber pilot who becomes obsessed with dropping his payload.
